Director Kevin MacDonald and co-producer Ziggy Marley bring forth the most definitive look back at the life of Bob Marley, in the new documentary "Marley". From the formation of "The Wailers" and the comings and goings of different members of the band (including Peter Tosh and Jimmy Cliff), to Marley's dealings in Rastafarian and how it bled into his Reggae music; and also from his controversial lifestyle punctuated by being a "womanizer" (eleven children from seven different women) to his humanitarian nature, this in-depth (two and a half hour) documentary will immensely satisfy fan and novice alike. I, like many other younger American non-Rasta's, had grown up knowing Bob Marley for his more commercially catchy hits and from his countless depictions on a multitude of shirts worn by numerous Bay Area potheads. But, being a novice, going into this film I wasn't particularly interested in seeing a two and a half hour movie about the life and times Bob Marley. A story I thought I knew, and had heard, countless times before. But that notion changed rather abruptly within the first few minutes of this movie. And by the end, due to the brilliant investigative journalistic nature of MacDonald which elevates "Marley" from an average movie to a MUST SEE documentary, audiences who see this film will walk out with an in-depth appreciation for the man who wrote some of the most poetic and revolutionary lyrics in music history. "Marley" is the no holds barred dissection of a particular subject (or subject matter) which fans of great documentaries will crave (and in fact, was nowhere to be found in the films of 2011). And for a documentary that was originally supposed to be directed by Martin Scorsese, after seeing what MacDonald has accomplished here, it would be hard to imagine "Marley" being more perfectly executed in anybody else's hands. What truly sets "Marley" apart from other bio-documentaries and A&E specials is how, in a very PBS way, MacDonald uses a seemingly endless amount of archival footage, as well as interviews with almost everybody (still alive) who had anything to do with Marley's upbringing and his life as a world famous musician, as the narration. It was quite apparent that MacDonald had full access to any and all information he wanted, and as far as I could see, he thankfully took complete advantage of this fact. As audiences, we hear from Marley's family and peers about how as a young boy he was an outcast because of his mixed-race. We also hear from notable Jamaican artists and record executives, who saw his maturation into a musician that worked to bridge the gaps, not only in Jamaica (during times of war) but nationwide as well. In this way, MacDonald enables audiences to intimately know Bob Marley on every level (get your mind out of the gutter). But all the pure information aside, what MacDonald does very well here is not creating a documentary which totally sanctifies Bob Marley, much as many movies (tributes) do when celebrities with checkered pasts die. MacDonald captures recollections of Marley from both those who loved the man and those who thought him to be nothing more than a womanizing zealot, who was sadly not as politically motivated as he should have been. Final Thought: Overall "Marley" is a brilliant example of an archetype onto how all biographical documentaries should be made. Grade "A" filmmaking, in conjunction with a larger than life subject (subject matter) is what elevates "Marley" into one of the most entertaining two and a half hour documentaries I have ever seen. If you are at all a Bob Marley fan (casual or otherwise) and if you are able to, see "Marley", any way you can, before Hollywood makes a more commercialized (legacy ruining) feature film version of his life in a few years; starring Mekhi Phifer no doubt. The city planned to shut down the schools and open new ones in their place, forcing more than 3,500 teachers, administrators and school aides to reapply for their jobs.
The state education commissioner signed off on the plan.
The United Federation of Teachers said the arbitrator's decision means the staff in the affected schools will be able to keep their jobs for the next school year.UFT president Michael Mulgrew spoke to NY1 about the decision on "The Call."
"It sends a very clear message that to try to do a backdoor scam closing of schools in order to punish school communities is not going to be accepted," he said. "The arbitrator clearly ruled that the mayor's plan was wrong."
Mayor Bloomberg and Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott said they will appeal the decision.
In a joint statement, they said, "The ruling puts the career interests of adults ahead of the educational needs of children, and it contradicts the State Department of Education?s decision authorizing our plan."
The UFT says parents, students and teachers need the Department of Education to come up with strategies to fix struggling schools rather than give up on them.
"The city should focus in on sitting down and talking to the union to make sure that everyone is working together in order to give the best education for our children," said City Councilman Robert Jackson.
Education officials said that the ruling puts in jeopardy nearly $60 million in federal aid for struggling schools.

Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives arrested a Port Charlotte man Wednesday after he allegedly sent a Facebook comment about a bomb at Town Center Mall, 1441 Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte.
Vincent Lorenzo Barney, 29, 2297 Brentano St., was charged with felony false bomb threat.
Police say an out-of-state "friend" of Barney called CCSO.
Deputies and Charlotte County Fire/EMS helped mall security evacuate employees and shoppers.
Detectives also went to Barney's home. Barney reportedly denied posting the comment but detectives found his computer on with his Facebook post displayed: "There's a bomb in the mall."
Barney reportedly then told police there was no bomb and he posted the comment because he was depressed, stressed out and unable to find a job.
Barney is now in the Charlotte County Jail on $5,000 bond. Mall activity resumed at 12:52 p.m.

Scientists in the United States have developed a paint that can store and deliver electrical power just like a battery.?
Traditional lithium-ion batteries power most portable electronics. They are already pretty compact but limited to rectangular or cylindrical blocks.
Researchers at Rice University in Houston, Texas, have come up with a technique to break down each element of the traditional battery and incorporate it into a liquid that can be spray-painted in layers on virtually any surface.
"This means traditional packaging for batteries has given way to a much more flexible approach that allows all kinds of new design and integration possibilities for storage devices," said Pulickel Ajayan, who leads the team on the project.
The rechargeable battery is made from spray-painted layers, with each representing the components of a traditional battery: two current collectors, a cathode, an anode and a polymer separator in the middle.?
The paint layers were airbrushed onto ceramics, glass and stainless steel, and on diverse shapes such as the curved surface of a ceramic mug, to test how well they bond.
One limitation of the technology is in the use of difficult-to-handle liquid electrolytes and the need for a dry and oxygen-free environment when making the new device.?
The researchers are looking for components that would allow construction in the open air for a more efficient production process and greater commercial viability.
Neelam Singh, who worked on the project, believes the technology could be integrated with solar cells to give any surface a stand-alone energy capture and storage capability.
The researchers tested the device using nine bathroom tiles coated with the paint and connected to each other. When they were charged, the batteries powered a set of light-emitting diodes for six hours, providing a steady 2.4 volts.
The results of the study were published on Thursday in the journal Nature Scientific Reports.?

The Dow Jones industrial average closed the day up 92 points.
Gains were broad-based, but the energy sector was the strongest. The healthcare sector was the second-biggest gainer, on news that U.S. health regulators approved Arena Pharmaceuticals Inc's pill to treat obesity, the first weight-loss drug in 13 years.
Easing concerns about tepid economic growth, data showed demand for long-lasting U.S. manufactured goods rose more than expected in May.
In another report, signed contracts for home purchases jumped in May to the most in seven months, the latest sign of improvement in a sector that has been a drag on the economy.
But investors remained hesitant to make big bets ahead of the euro zone leaders' summit on Thursday. Few anticipate anything concrete to emerge from the two-day meeting after German Chancellor Angela Merkel said debt sharing, an idea backed by France, Italy and Spain, would not happen in her lifetime.
"We are in a market now, where in the absence of bad news, the market just goes higher and then with bad news, the gains are instantly erased," said Randy Frederick, managing director of active trading and derivatives at the brokerage Charles Schwab.
"I think building your position now [ahead of the EU summit] is pretty dangerous, without clearly hedging your portfolio."
With Spanish 10-year yields near the 7 percent level, the euro zone's fourth-largest economy appears set to be the next country to seek a bailout.

History:
Ralph Baer creator of the original Odyssey system had approached RCA initially about backing up his invention.? At that time RCA passed on the Odyssey, and Ralph Baer would eventually land a deal with RCA?s competitor Magnavox to release the Odyssey.? RCA noticed the success Magnavox was having with the Odyssey line of ?Pong clone? systems throughout the mid 1970?s, so they decided to create their own home video game console to compete with Atari, Magnavox, and many other ?Pong clone? manufacturers.
The RCA Studio II was released in January of 1977 and retailed for $149.95. RCA had hoped that would be the very first home video game console to have interchangeable rom carts, however the Fairchild had beat them only by a few months with the release of the Channel F.
Unfortunately for RCA the Studio II was obsolete by the time it hit the market.? It couldn?t display any color, and had built in controls unlike many consoles at the time, which had?separated?controls.? It also suffered the same fate as many other consoles when Atari released the Atari VCS (2600), and by 1979 RCA decided to discontinue support for the Studio II.

Even though the Studio II doesn?t?display any color, it actually was designed for color and there were some games designed to display color.? Several years later clone consoles in the UK called Sheen M1200 displayed colors with Studio II games, and Japan had a console called VISICOM Video Computer System also produced color for the Studio II games.

RCA?s main design influence for the Studio II were the many ?Pong clone? consoles already available during the time.? There are two nine button numbered key pads on both sides of the console used for the controls.? ?4? is for left, ?6? for right, ?2? for up, ?3? for up-right, etc. ?0? was often used for the action button.? There is also a ?clear? button to reset the game in the middle, a red power light above the ?clear? button, and a cartridge slot in the upper middle part of the console.? There is no on/off switch, and the console just automatically powers on when it?s plugged in.? There is a RF cord built into the back of the console that connects to a unique switch box that the 9v AC adapter plugs into (Atari would use a similar setup years later with the release of the Atari 5200).

The Studio II has five built in games including: Bowling, Freeway (car racing), Patterns, Doodles, and Math.? In total only 10 additional game carts were released in the lifetime of the console.

Personal Thoughts:
The RCA Studio II is one of my least favorite retro consoles.? RCA made a huge mistake by not making the console display any colors and by leaving the control buttons built into the console. For example for a two player game each player has to sit?uncomfortably?close to each other in order to play the games.? It also looks too much like a ?Pong clone? system which I?m sure most consumers during the time didn?t see the benefit of purchasing the Studio II if they already had a ?Pong clone? console.

I honestly don?t have one.
Rarity (1-10):
On a scale of 1-10 and 10 being the rarest, I give the Studio II an 5/10. ?Expect to pay around $40-$50 for a system with some games. ? It doesn?t show up too often on sites like eBay, but it?s probably more because there isn?t an interest in the system rather than it being super rare.

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul is?trying to attach an amendment that would define personhood as beginning at fertilization?to a bill regarding flood insurance:
WASHINGTON ? Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) moved this week to hold a noncontroversial flood insurance bill hostage until the Senate agrees that life begins at fertilization.
The bill, which would financially boost the National Flood Insurance Program on the cusp of hurricane season, had been expected to pass easily in the Senate. But since Paul on Monday offered an unrelated ?fetal personhood? amendment, which would give legal protections to fetuses from the moment of fertilization, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is threatening to halt progress on the legislation.
?I?m told last night that one of our Republican senators wants to offer an amendment ? listen to this one ? wants to offer an amendment on when life begins,? Reid said on the Senate floor Tuesday. ?I am not going to put up with that on flood insurance. I can be condemned by outside sources; my friends can say, ?Let them have a vote on it.? There will not be a vote on that on flood insurance. We?ll either do flood insurance with the amendments that deal with flood insurance, or we won?t do it. We?ll have an extension.?
Reid has allowed Republicans to attach unrelated amendments to other important bills in the past few months. While Vic Gundotra wasn't willing to talk Glass in our run-in here at Google I/O, a few others were. In speaking with folks from Google, we learned a few new details about the project, while confirming some whispers that we'd heard floated in the past. Here's a quick rundown:

Today, Flipboard competitor Pulse is launching its new Premium Sources feature in partnership with the Wall Street Journal to make some of the newpaper's content available on its platform through in-app subscriptions. Back in the dim and distant past (i.e., the 1960s and 1970s), relatively high levels of tea consumption were common in most of the United Kingdom, and coffee was an uncommon substitute. This is certainly not so true today. However, ?
a study published recently in Nutrition and Cancer (by Shafique et al.) has been widely publicized in the British media because it found an association between high levels of tea consumption (up to?12 cups of tea per day) and risk for prostate cancer up to 37 years later among a cohort of > 6,000 men in Scotland.
Our friends at The Daily Mail (as usual) were prominent among those who promptly over-reacted to the data in the study results (?Men who drink lots of tea are far more likely to develop prostate cancer, researchers have warned? stated The Daily Mail, in a gross exaggeration of the data.)
Now let?s be clear to distinguish between the quality of the research and the quality of the media reporting.
This study has problems. It was never designed as a study to investigate the impact of tea drinking on risk for prostate cancer diagnosis (let alone prostate cancer death). It is severely flawed by the fact that the amounts of tea consumed by the participants?(and indeed all their other activities) were collected just once ? at the beginning of the study ? back in the recruitment period between 1970 and 1973. It therefore takes no account of the changes in behavior of the study participants between recruitment and the end of the study in 2007. And that?s just one of the many technical problems with this study.
All that the authors state in the?study is that men who?drank > 7?cups a day in 1970-73 were 50 percent more likely to?be diagnosed with?prostate cancer over a median follow-up of 28 years than those who drank 0-3 cups a day. To be specific,?6.4 percent?of those who drank the most tea developed prostate cancer during the study period, compared with 4.6 percent?of those who drank the least, so the absolute hazard ratio of heavy tea drinking on the probability of a prostate cancer diagnosis was very small indeed (even if it was statistically significant). Furthermore, they found no association whatsoever between tea intake and the incidence of?low- (Gleason score?< 7) or high-grade (Gleason score?8?10) prostate cancer.
For those who are interested in a detailed analysis of this study, we recommend this analysis on the web site of the UK?s National Health Service, which gives a thoughful (if slightly tongue in cheek) assessment of the study and the related media coverage.
What?s The ?New? Prostate Cancer InfoLink?s take on all of this? Frankly, this study is of dubious merit at best, and the media coverage (unsurprisingly) has been way out of proportion to the actual data. We doubt if there is a significant percentage of males remaining in the Western world who still drink anything close to 12 cups of tea a day anyway.

ASUNCION, Paraguay (AP) -- Fernando Lugo emerged early Sunday to denounce his ouster as Paraguay's president as a "parliamentary coup" and a "foreordained sentence" that was not based on proper evidence.
Lugo said his truncated presidency was targeted because he tried to help the South American nation's poor majority. Asked whether he had any hope of retaking office, Lugo exhorted his followers to remain peaceful but suggested that popular national and international clamor could lead Paraguayan lawmakers to reverse his impeachment.
"In politics, anything is possible," Lugo said.
He added that he was visited by Roman Catholic bishops before Friday's Senate trial for alleged poor performance of duties, and agreed to accept the outcome of a process he considered illegitimate only to avoid bloodshed.
Lugo spoke in a pre-dawn special televised "open microphone" program hosted by a state-funded public television channel that was created by his government. As Saturday turned into Sunday, a long line of speakers queued up in front of the station's headquarters to vent their frustration over what they called an institutional coup, calling for strikes and protests to demand his return.
"We will not recognize any other president," chanted the crowd of at least 200 people, waving Paraguayan flags and bundled up against the Southern Hemisphere winter.
The nighttime protest broke the quiet of an otherwise sleepy day when many shops were closed and streets were largely empty. Some alleged that the public station was being censored by the nascent government of Federico Franco, who took the oath of office the previous day.
Earlier Saturday, Franco set about forming his new government as he promised to honor foreign commitments, respect private property and reach out to Latin American leaders to minimize diplomatic fallout and keep his country from becoming a regional pariah.
In a brief appearance before international journalists, Franco tried to broadcast a sense of normality a day after lawmakers overwhelmingly voted to kick Lugo out of office.
"The country is calm. I was elected (as vice president) in 2008 by popular vote. Activity is normal and there is no protest," Franco said.
His first two appointments were Interior Minister Carmelo Caballero, who will be tasked with maintaining public order in this poor, landlocked South American nation, and Foreign Minister Jose Felix Fernandez, who will immediately hit the road to try to appease fellow members of the Mercosur and Unasur regional trade blocs.
"Our foreign minister will go to Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay to meet with authorities and explain to them that there was no break with democracy here. The transition of power through political trial is established in the national constitution," Franco said.
The Paraguayan Senate voted 39-4 Friday to dismiss Lugo a little more than a year before his five-year term was to end, and Franco took the oath of office soon after. Lugo told reporters Saturday that he intends to remain in politics and is considering a possible run for a Senate seat in next year's elections.
Lugo's ouster drew swift condemnation around Latin America from leaders who called it a de facto coup, and several presidents said they would seek Paraguay's expulsion from regional groups.
Argentine President Cristina Kirchner announced the withdrawal of her ambassador to Paraguay, citing "grave institutional events" and saying the embassy's No. 2 will remain in charge "until democratic order is re-established in that country."
The Cuban government said Saturday it wouldn't recognize the new government and called Lugo's removal a "parliamentary coup d'etat executed against the constitutional President Fernando Lugo and the brother people of Paraguay."
Criticism came not just from the left but from conservative governments, too.
Chile said Lugo's removal "did not comply with the minimum standards of due process," and Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said "legal procedures shouldn't be used to abuse. ... What we want is to help stability and democracy be maintained in Paraguay."
Given the tough talk, Franco could find mending fences to be a tall order.
"It looks terrible throughout the region," said analyst Adam Isacson of the Washington Office on Latin America, a think tank. "(Lugo's ouster) doesn't look like a deliberative process, and what it looks like is that a president can be removed simply for being unpopular, or making unpopular decisions."
"The new government is going to be pretty isolated for the whole time that it's in power," Isacson said. "For Paraguay's neighbors and trade partners, I think there's probably not great cost involved in isolating the country for a year or more, and then re-recognizing whatever government is elected next year."
That would be a scenario similar to what played out in Honduras following the June 2009 ouster of Manuel Zelaya, which was also portrayed by those who took over as a legal, constitutional transition, even as it was denounced elsewhere.
Honduras' interim president was isolated by many Latin American governments, and his elected successor, Porfirio Lobo, only really won the good graces of some in 2011 after Venezuela's Hugo Chavez brokered a reconciliation deal with Zelaya.
"President Franco surely believed himself to be capable of governing, that's why he accepted the presidency through the coup-by-political-trial," Lugo said. "His government will have to resist the blockade that is being announced in the countries of the region."
Lugo resigned as a Roman Catholic bishop to run for president in 2008 against the wishes of Pope Benedict XVI, who grudgingly accepted the resignation when it became clear Lugo would not be dissuaded.
On Saturday, the Vatican's envoy to Paraguay stopped short of recognizing the new government but expressed satisfaction there has been little unrest other than some confrontations between Lugo supporters and police during the Senate trial.
"I am very pleased that the people and authorities have thought of the good of the country, which is to keep giving one's best for the fatherland," envoy Antonio Ariotti said, adding that he would read a message from the Vatican in the evening.
The German ambassador was also seen visiting the presidential palace.
"We will continue as normal with all cooperation agreements with Paraguay. We see the process of change happening within the laws and the constitution, because no parliament makes a coup d'etat," Ambassador Claude Robert Ellner.
The U.S. State Department urged "all Paraguayans to act peacefully, with calm and responsibility, in the spirit of Paraguay's democratic principles."
At Lugo's home in a quiet residential neighborhood of Asuncion, a close political ally said the former priest would not be making any comment Saturday.
Lugo was in good spirits, had spoken by phone the previous night with leaders like Chavez, and was now focused on moving his things out of the presidential residence with the help of his nephews, said Sen. Alberto Grillon, one of the four to back Lugo in Friday's vote.
Lugo had locked horns with a virulent opposition from the beginning of his term in 2008. He was criticized by some as being unyielding and unwilling to compromise; meanwhile Paraguay's powerful elite, long accustomed to getting their way during 61 years of Colorado single-party rule, fought Lugo's attempts to raise taxes on the country's No. 1 export soy and redistribute farmland to the poor majority.
There had been talk of impeaching Lugo in the past, but never enough support in Congress. Ultimately, a deadly forest clash between police and landless protesters cost Lugo all but a handful of votes in both legislative houses, setting the stage for his rapid removal.

Germany famously austere and harsh Finance Minister Wolfgang Sch?uble is the subject of a Der Spiegel interview in which he defends the Euro and Germany's motives in acting the way it has.
There are some funny, eye-rolly parts, such as...
SPIEGEL:You want nothing less than a United States of Europe.
Sch?uble: Even though the term is used repeatedly, it doesn't make it any better. No, the Europe of the future will not be a federal state based on the model of the United States of America or the Federal Republic of Germany. It will have its own structure. It's an extremely exciting venture.
Exciting!
But there is one nugget in there that everyone must by now understand, and that is the conditions that must exist for Germany to support the kind of fiscal burden sharing that will be required to end the euro crisis.
SPIEGEL: What would a fiscal union have to look like so that Germany could accept euro bonds?
Sch?uble: In an optimal scenario, there would be a European finance minister, who would have a veto against national budgets and would have to approve levels of new borrowing. It would be up the individual countries to decide how to spend the approved funds, that is, how to answer the question: "Should we spend more money on families or on road construction?"
This is the clearest articulation yet of the German stance. If you want German money, then a European finance minister must be allowed to veto your spending. Don't like it? Then figure out a way to backstop yourself?
Could Europe ever get to this point?
Well the fact of the matter is that it's not that different from what George Soros is proposing... an idea that got a lot of buzz today.
Soros proposing not a finance minister that can veto budgets, but rather a debt redemption fund that backstops government finances and penalizes those countries that aren't undertaking agreed-upon reform.
The different is not that enormous as both essentially involve a backstop for some lack of sovereignty. Soros' vision is a bit less harsh, though even he envisions a full joint Eurobond scheme eventually.
Meanwhile, the FT is reporting that at this week's summit a scheme is being devised that moves the ball along these lines... a plan whereby the EU could rewrite national budgets. The draft report will also be presented as part of a fiscal and political union.
Bottom line: The various ideas aren't wildly far apart, and some discussion in this direction is happening.
The signal we're looking for next is not from the Germans, but from the leadership of Spain/Italy/France that this kind of trade appeals to them, that they'd be willing to give up more fiscal sovereignty in exchange for backstops.
One more thing: It's true that any scheme like this would be a long way off, and it feels as though the speed would be too slow to prevent an acute crisis. But if the market starts to expect that debts will be backstopped, that will help. Combine that with the ECB doing whatever it takes to keep the banking system alive (such as this week's latest move to expand eligible collateral) and a medium-term muddle along path exists.

FRANKFORT, KY (WAVE) ? A committee has been set up to find a replacement for the president of the Kentucky State Fair Board.
A group met Thursday afternoon with Searchwide, a national company that seeks out candidates for convention centers and big hotels.
Harold Workman is set to retire at the end of the year.
The search committee, headed by Thomas Schifano, hopes to have it narrowed down to five candidates in mid September.

It?s decision week for college football?s most powerful committee ? and the sport?s most successful underdog program.
The 12-member BCS presidential oversight committee meets Tuesday in Washington, D.C., to reshape the postseason in college football. It is expected to concur with the commissioners? recommendations and usher in a small, but true four-team playoff to crown a national champion.
Idaho President Duane Nellis is a member of the committee, which consists of one president from each of the 11 Football Bowl Subdivision conferences and Notre Dame. The new system would start with the 2014 regular season, leaving time to work out a variety of details.
If only Bob Kustra, Nellis? counterpart at Boise State, had the luxury of that much time. Kustra, Athletic Director Mark Coyle and the school?s athletic department face a landscape-shifting decision of their own this week.
The Broncos, who in December committed to joining the Big East in football as of July 1, 2013, have yet to officially withdraw from their current league, the Mountain West. Boise State must withdraw from the league before July 1 ? next Sunday ? ask for an unlikely extension or face stiffer financial penalties.
Though Boise State officials have consistently said the athletic department is moving ahead with its Big East plans, there are still roadblocks, including where to house other sports.
They were set to move to the Western Athletic Conference, home of the Idaho Vandals, but that league has been raided and faces an uncertain future. Boise State has applied for membership in the California-based Big West ? and the league is willing to entertain the Broncos? application ? but no decisions have been made.
CBS Sports reported Friday that Boise State is talking with the Mountain West about remaining in the league in all sports. A source told the Statesman that Boise State continues to talk with the Big East, Big West and Mountain West about its future.
While the time has surely come for college football to abandon the controversial Bowl Championship Series in favor of a playoff system, Boise State?s decision is less certain and the variables greater.
The answers that college football will find in the coming months are ones that would help Boise State make its decision.
What type of playoff system will be in place? And how will those teams be chosen? How will the money, expected to dwarf the current payout, be divided among the conferences? Will the Big East be treated as an equal with the sport?s power conference, be relegated to also-ran status or find its level (and payout) in the middle?
Will the presidential oversight committee grant the Mountain West the BCS exemption request it has sought since December? If granted, Boise State would have access to the BCS this year in the Mountain West.
Will the Big East secure a lucrative television contract when it begins negotiations this fall? Will Boise State receive the $6 million to $8 million per-year payout it was expecting when it joined the league or will the television networks treat the conference as a glorified mid-major?
Will the Big West, which has rebuffed Boise State?s advances before, accept the Broncos? non-football sports?
Boise State doesn?t have time to wait for every answer. Nor the money needed to wait it out.
If Boise State gives one year?s notice to the Mountain West, it will forfeit its final year of league revenue (at least $2.5 million). If the Broncos don?t give one year?s notice, their penalty will be at least double. Boise State would owe the Big East $5 million if it does not join the conference in 2013.
The time for deliberation, for negotiation, for consultation is nearly over ? for those in charge of college football?s postseason and for Boise State.
It?s time to decide.

Losing weight is often a momentous moment in any woman?s life, but it seems that other people don?t revel in that glory.
A new study has revealed that even when a woman loses a significant amount of weight, her friends, family and colleagues will still think of her as fat.
Even if you?ve gone from a size 20 to a size 12, the stigma of obesity never quite leaves you, say scientists, who stress that other people may still label you as greedy and lazy.
The unfair stigma was identified by researchers at Manchester University, along with their counterparts at the University of Hawaii and Monash University in Melbourne. Using volunteers to assess the outward appearance of women, some of whom had previously been fat, the scientists identified a definite obesity-related negativity. Even when the volunteers were complete strangers to the women being assessed, they still marked them down for having been fat before.
The 273 volunteers were asked to look at pictures of five women, all 31, and given notes about each. They then had to rate their attractiveness and asked if they liked them or not.
Of the five women, one had been slim all her life, another had been overweight all her life while the other three had previously been fat but had lost five stone to become a normal size.
Most volunteers regarded the woman who had always been slim as the most attractive, with the ones who had previously been obese but had lost weight lagging behind. Watching the volunteers, the scientists recorded that they also made negative comments about these women and had what they called ?fat prejudices?.
The researchers pointed out that the obesity stigma was so ?powerful and enduring that it may even outlast the obesity itself.?
They also highlighted how we as a society need to address our attitudes to obesity; after all, encouraging the obese to lose weight for their own health should be a positive thing.
Said Dr Kerry O?Brien from Manchester University?s School of Psychological Sciences: ?Many people who are perceived as ?fat? are struggling in vain to lose weight in order to escape this painful social stigma.
?We need to rethink our approaches to and views of weight and obesity. Given the great number of people who may be negatively affected by this prejudice, obesity discrimination needs to be reduced.?
