Durant has got to be the most overrated player in the NBA
-
All he does is score. He is very good at scoring and does it at a very efficient rate, but that's literally all he does.
Let's see...
- He's a below average defender.
- He's not very good at getting teammates involved (2.7 assists career average)
- He doesn't make the players around him better.
- He's weak as hell.He doesn't even deserve to be in the conversation as a top 5 player in the league.
For someone his size, he does have amazing scoring ability. He is pretty tall and has very long arms which allows him to score over anybody, so he's basically a taller/longer version of other pure scorers the league has seen before.
I'd take Melo over him any day.

This thread is asinine and silly.

Came in here to refute your statement, but pretty solid points have been made. They dont have an offensive flow, they just kind of play one on one, this would be ok if Westbrook would be more of an offensive catalyst but he's not. Plus KD is still young Jordan didnt pass much either till later in his career if im not mistaken.

Jordan averaged 5.9 assists his rookie year, 4.6 his 3rd year (he was injured his 2nd year), 5.9 his 4th year, and 8.0 his 5th year.
Kevin Durant's assists in his first 4 years? 2.4, 2.8, 2.8, 2.7.
The only thing that happens when he has the ball in his hands is he is looking to score. Doesn't generate offense for his teammates.

I agree on this for sure

He is a forward getting around 3 assists a game is not bad, he also avg 6 boards a game not bad imo

Kidd is 6,3 durant is 6,10 and Kidd is not the defender he was before. You don't get Locked yo by a 6,3 guard Welcome to 2011 NBA. Yes you do. Rewind 15 years and beyond then you can bring up that statement.

Kidd is 6,3 durant is 6,10 and Kidd is not the defender he was before. You don't get Locked yo by a 6,3 guard there is a lot more that goes into playing defense than height, Kidd is 6'4 btw
-
there is a lot more that goes into playing defense than height, Kidd is 6'4 btw Sure, but you would expect someone who is 6'10" and has a wing span of a 7 footer who other 6'10" players have a hard time guarding to be able to sh*t all over a 6'4" player, no matter how good at defense he is.

How's he overrated? I don't see anyone hyping him up as a defensive specialist. He's hyped as a scorer...

How's he overrated? I don't see anyone hyping him up as a defensive specialist. He's hyped as a scorer... Oh, I guess people putting him as a top 5 player is not "overrated" when he can't do anything else but score.
The NBA Rank had Durant at 6 and Melo at 12. Daphuck?

Thats like saying Dennis Rodman couldn't out rebound seven footers, It all comes down to technique Durant is still young Kidd is a vet he knows where he needs to be on the floor and how the ball moves you don't average 9 assists and 2 steals a game for your career without knowing how offense flows. He used that to his advantage to shut down a younger less experienced player.
-
I don't think he's a below average defender. That's Melo.
I guess you'd have to look at the advanced metrics for that. Anyone have a link?
Valid points on the rest though. But if he's average at defense and the best scorer in the NBA...I still feel you have to put him top 5 even if he's not good at helping out his teammates.

doesn't that describe melo too? Yes, OP is a dumb kid whose just mad Durant gets mentioned as a top player and because he's a threat to Kobe in these conversations. Hence the reason why this thread was created in the first place. OP is a huge Laker homer.

Lol Durant is DEF top 5 players in the league. Obviously hes te best scorer in the league, rebounds well, and puts in effort on the defensive end too. Hea not quite lockdown but he def gets the job done, and as far as taking melo over him. Thats dumb, MELo does NOT play defense, im from NY and id trade melo for durant with no hesitation
